In April last year, the Adams brothers’ team from Bay 12 Games delighted fans of the legendary Dwarf Fortress by releasing a beta version of the highly anticipated new mode. Nearly a year later, the creators announced that the full version of the so-called “Adventure” mode is set to launch on January 23.
“We want to thank all the players who participated in the beta and provided invaluable feedback. The mode has come a long way since its initial release, and we couldn’t have done it without your support! While we’re excited to shift focus back to the ‘Fortress’ mode, this isn’t the end of development for the ‘Adventure’ mode. Future updates will include exciting innovations for both modes. As is always the case with Dwarf Fortress, everything will happen in due time. We’ll share more details about our upcoming plans very soon.”

For those unfamiliar, the new mode allows players to step into the shoes of individual heroes, moving away from the traditional goal of building and managing a sprawling dwarven fortress. Instead, players embark on personal adventures, either solo or as part of a group.
In this mode, players can interact with other characters, explore dungeons, battle monsters, and much more. Similar to “Fortress” mode, “Adventure” mode maintains the game’s intricate event simulation system, down to the smallest details, such as interactions with minor tribes. Actions are meticulously recorded in a detailed journal. Players can choose to explore an existing world or venture into one generated from scratch.
With its unique blend of storytelling and simulation, Dwarf Fortress: Adventure Mode promises to bring an exciting new dimension to the game’s already rich experience.
