Users discovered that in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,
Studio CD Projekt RED had planned a quest in which Triss Merigold would marry an aristocrat named Edmund Castello.
The mission was called “Ashen Marriage,” and its events unfolded in Novigrad. According to the quest’s storyline, Triss fell in love with Castello, and they decided to arrange a wedding. Geralt was supposed to assist them with preparations, including clearing the nearby canals of monsters and finding drinks. Additionally, he had to choose a gift for the bride, one of which could be the Rose of Memory, a gift that would delight Triss far more than the others.
However, the wedding was never meant to take place. Later in the quest, Dijkstra revealed that Edmund was associated with witch hunters and was acting under their pressure, as they were blackmailing him over a secret daughter from a previous marriage.
Geralt then had the choice to reveal the truth to Triss, either directly or alongside Castello. In either case, the wedding would be canceled, as Triss would either feel disillusioned by the betrayal or appreciate Geralt’s honesty but decide to abandon the rushed marriage.
It is unfortunate that CDPR decided to cut this quest from the game—it could have further explored the relationship between Geralt and Triss. However, there were likely specific reasons for this decision.
